Kwame Nkrumah University Of Science and Technology (KNUST) beats Harvard,Yale, Cambridge, Monash and yop African Universities to make it to the final of the 43rd Congregation of the World Universities Debate Competition(WUDC) at Madrid, Spain.
The Debating society of KNUSThas secured the second-place at the 43rdWorld Universities Debating Championships(WUDC) on January 3, 2023, in Madrid,Spain. The university was represented by Michael Ametu Prosper, a BA Sociology and Vincent Johnson Attakpah, BSc Statistics all level 400 students. The representatives qualified through nine(9) rounds of the debate. This landmark achievement marks the first time an African university has made it to the finals, competing against other top universities Such as Cambridge, Harvard, Yale, Manosh, University of Toronto and all other African Universities.
The WUDC finals featured four universities in the world, who debated on the motion; “When they are not part of the religion, the house believes that feminist should refrain from critiquing widespread religious practices that have different rules based on gender”

Professor Kofi Ohene Owusu-Daaku, the sponsor of the KNUST Debate Society, introduced the team to Professor Rita Akosua Dickson, the Vice-chancellor and expressed gratitude to her and the university Management for their backing and their funding throughout the entire competition. He acknowledged that these events are beneficial in drawing attention to the university and emphasized that the resources invested were not wasted. Professor Owusu-Daaku proposed the inclusion of healthy competition at all hall level to stimulate and cultivate the students Intellect.

Professor Mrs. Akosua Dickson, thanked the debaters for their enthusiasm and energy during the championship. She advised them not to feel discouraged if they did not win first place and instead have faith in their abilities for future competitions. The Chancellor expressed her belief in the students potential and urged them to prepare thoroughly fr next event as the possess the necessary qualities to succeed.
